The fall season "Najee" MatchPlay Tourney was conceived by members from the Ohio University Open Golf League in 2014, to commence following regular-season league play. The tourney is dedicated to our good friend and avid golfer Najee Muhammad, who joined the Ohio University faculty in 1996 in the Cultural Studies in Education program (Department of Educational Studies). He also served one year as the interim chair of the Department of African American Studies. A diverse teacher and mentor, Najee was a dedicated student of the game, equally enjoying the "lesson" tee as well walking the university golf course and many other surrounding area courses. Najee passed away on March 8, 2014 (read more).

Rules
1. Handicap based Individual Single Elimination matchplay.
2. 18-hole match play is highly recommended. 18 strokes maximum for 18 holes, 9 holes 9 strokes maximum.
3. Handicaps are calculated based on your top 5 games during the regular season. The handicap will not change during the matchplay.
4. Bracket seeds based on the handicap. In case of ties last personal score shot will determine higher seed.
5. Play time is up to you and your opponent. Please communicate with each other and decide on the play time within two week period of each round.
6. You may choose to play at any course as long as players agree with each other.
7. USGA and local rules (if any) apply but you may choose to apply other rules based on the course condition, skill levels, etc. It’s all up to the two players.
8. 18-hole rounds are recommended but some of you may choose to play 9-hole match due to work schedule, etc. and the decision is up to the two players.
If not playing the OU course, use the slope rating to properly calculate handicaps:
To properly play handicaps, utilize slope ratings for the course you are playing. At OU,
just round the index number and use it as your 18-hole handicap. If you are playing elsewhere, the course handicap can be calculated as following:
• Course handicap = handicap index * slope rating/113 For example, Using Oxbow as an example, a handicap would determine by using as an example a handicap of 19.6 and Oxbow’s slope rating for the white tees of 119: 19.6 * 119 / 113 = 20.6. Round this number to the closest whole number and the course handicap will be 21.• Players must contact each other and schedule their matches
• Holes are played out or until conceded.
